Laundry Worker - Sort and Soil

Job Description:

Summary: 

Under general direction from the Laundry Supervisor, complete assigned duties throughout the plant to meet the daily production schedule.

Essential Job Duties:

SOIL

  • Required to sort linen by item, color and classification.
  • Distribute separated linen across conveyor to appropriate E-rail bag.
  • Consistently monitor linen for damage or tears.  Separate torn and/or usually heavy stained items and place in appropriate cart.
  • Responsible for ensuring linens do not fall on floor.
  • Required to observe established safety guidelines at all times.
  • Required to wear safety equipment/protective gear as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Duties As Required:

FLAT

  • Required to lift linens from cart and place neatly on feeding board or lift/pull sheets from cart and place selvage edge deep into spreading device.
  • Place corner of sheet on feed board of the iron.   Required to keep side of sheet tight as sheet enters the iron.
  • Required to briefly inspect for tears and/or stains.   Press button to cull items as needed.
  • Consistently monitor machines for jams.  Do no attempt to remove items without supervision.
  • Responsible for ensuring linens do not fall on floor.
  • Required to clean vacuum box at end of each batch of linen produced.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

             

TERRY

  • Required to set proper adjustments on folding machine for each type of towel to be produced.
  • Responsible for lifting towels from cart and briefly inspect for tears or stains.
  • Responsible for feeding towels on center of the feeding board of the feeding machine.
  • Required to maintain an accurate, complete and legible production log.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

CONVENTIONAL WASH OPERATOR

  •  Required to sort specialty linen and Food and Beverage (F&B) items by proper color and classification.
  • Loads conventional washers with properly sized loads, selects the correct formula for the goods being washed and starts the cycle.
  • Sorts ā€œ1ā€™s and 2ā€™sā€ properly, tracking the items, and washes on the proper formula.
  • Pulls linen from the conventional washers when the cycle is complete.  Immediately reloads with the next load of linens.
  • Places linen in to the dryer or places linen into a floor cart as appropriate. If drying the linen, selects the correct formula and starts the cycle.  If the linen goes into a floor cart for Production, takes the cart to the proper location in the plant floor. 
  • Unloads dryer and immediately reloads with the next load of linens, selecting the correct dry formula. Starts the dryer.
  • Folds dried linen, places into a transport cart, and properly fill out tracking forms so that customer invoicing will be correct.
  • Rolls carts to the scale so that linen can be entered into the Alliant system by the scale operator.
  • Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Assists in Valet department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

         Ability to identify items by customer.

  • Knowledge of customer preference for processing, loading, finishing and presentation of items

  • Ability to work individually and/or in a team environment with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to verbally communicate read and write legibly.

  • Ability to focus and have strong attention to detail.

  • Strong coordination and manual dexterity skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multi task in fast paced environment.

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule and carry out responsibilities on evenings, weekends during peak season and holidays as needed.

     

    Education/Training/Certifications:

     

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience/Background:

Previous experience in commercial laundry setting preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Employee is subject to coastal climate conditions; extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.   Employee may be exposed to other conditions such as wind and high humidity.
  • Employee is subject to vibrations and exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Employee is subject to hazards which may include physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current and high places, work in small crawl spaces, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Employee is subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: odors, dusts, mists or poor ventilation.
  • Employee must be able to distinguish colors to separate whites/colors and detect stains or soiled goods.
  • Employee may be subject to moderate levels of noise.
  • Employee must be able to work at a repetitive, short-cycle operation requiring some judgment.
  • Employee must be able to extend hands, arms in any direction, move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Employee must be able to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. 
  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Must be able to consistently bend, stoop, reach, climb and descend multiple stairs and/or stairwells.

 

Special Requirements:

         Subject to pre-employment and/or random drug screening.

         During peak season, required to work weekends and holidays.
