Starr is a state of the art, commercial laundry plant that processes hospitality linens for hotels, restaurants, and casinos along the Gulf Coast.

The Custodian reports to the Maintenance Manager as well as the Plant Manager and the Production Manager and is responsible for performing general housekeeping and janitorial needs throughout the plant as well as the grounds surrounding the plant to include the parking lot, sidewalks and grassy areas.  

Position involves exposure to heat, humidity, and noise.

Must be able to continuously push, pull, and lift repetitively; stand/walk for hours at a time; climb stairs; and stoop, crawl, and crouch when needed.

Must be able to work at a productive pace and meet standard requirements.

Weekends and holidays required.

Subject to pre-employment drug and background screens.

Health Benefits available 60 days after start. PTO Accrual starts on 1st day of FT employment and can be used after 90 days of employment.  401k eligibility after a year of service.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for blowing and cleaning lint from all machines each morning prior to starting machines.
  • Clean and maintain lobbies, common areas, rest areas and guest entrances.
  • Clean and disinfect all restrooms.
  • Replenish toiletry items and soap products in restrooms.
  • Clean offices, conference rooms and meeting areas.
  • Sweep, mop and vacuum all floor areas.
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans.
  • Clean and disinfect drinking fountains.
  • Clean kitchen sinks and counters.
  • Wash entrance and exit floors.
  • Clean entrance and exit doors including glass and hardware.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly area for cleaning tools and supplies.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and materials in a timely manner.
  • Report maintenance issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Perform general outdoor custodial responsibilities, if needed.
  • Work in production when assigned. Assigned area can vary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic workplace safety and proper cleaning product uses.
  • Ability to read and understand labels and instructions particularly on the use of application of cleaning chemicals and products.
  • Reading and numerical comprehension skills sufficient to utilize interactive touch-screen computer system required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to take initiative and respond in prompt manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including mopping, vacuuming, making beds and carrying laundry bags.


  • Minimum of six months service with the Company and/or previous commercial and residential housekeeping experience required. 
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions generally acquired through a high school education.
  • Reading and numerical comprehension skills sufficient to utilize interactive touch-screen computer system is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Employee is subject to coastal climate conditions; extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.   Employee may be exposed to other conditions such as wind and high humidity.
  • Employee is subject to vibrations and exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • Employee is subject to hazards which may include physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current and high places, work in small crawl spaces, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Employee is subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: odors, dusts, mists or poor ventilation.
  • Employee must be able to extend hands, arms in any direction, move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Employee must be able to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. 
  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Must be able to consistently bend, stoop, reach, climb and descend multiple stairs and/or stairwells.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driving license with good driving record and reliable transportation.   Valid auto insurance required.
  • Subject to pre-employment and/or random drug screening.
